"Gift of Faith" 17 January 2016, Pastor Mike Norton

Romans 12:1-3; I Cor. 12:9

For Starters: One way of studying scripture is by starting out defining terms. Rom. 12:1-3 has words that make the passage so interesting once the words are defined.

1. Conformed: Greek suschematizo like the word schematic. Refers to conforming oneself to the outer fashion or outward appearance, accommodating oneself to a model or pattern. Found only one other time in scripture and that is in 1 Peter 1:14.

2. Transformed: Greek metamorphosed, transfigured. The butterfly effect.

3. Faith here is that evidence of Gods Grace which all believers received which allows all other graces to operate.

4. Everyone = Everyone, vs. 3

5. Measure is Greek metron; a measure("metre"), literally or figuratively; by implication is a limited portion (degree) a measure.

a. Luke 6:38

b. John 3:34 Holy Spirit not given by measure

c. Ephesians 4: 7,13

d. Rev. 21:17

6. Faith is the Greek word pistis, persuasion, [morally] conviction (of religious truth, or the truthfulness of God or a religious teacher): assurance, belief, etc.

7. Proportion: as we use the word today. NOTE: God may want to stretch us, but we should not allow other voices to influence us to go beyond our faith.

THE GIFT OF FAITH I Corinthians 12:9

1. Husband & wife buying a home

2. Leaders & disciples in a new ministry or outreach

3. The gift of faith may by be stirred up in one to believe for something, but not the faith to cause it to happen, like in healing.

4. "Little" faith used in scripture:

a. Matthew 6:30 cp. Luke 12:28

b. Matthew 8:26

c. Matthew 14:31

d. Matthew 16:8

Last Thoughts: Little faith is under developed faith.

"Unwrapping Your Gifts - The Leadership Function" 3 January 2016, Nan Gutierrez

Building the Ekklesia - Matthew 16:18

1. Law of first usage - Ekklesia means "assembly; called out ones" . . . but never a building!

2. Isaiah 9:6-7 NKJV - His church and government structure.

3. Built on the Foundation of Jesus - Ephesians 2:19-20.

4. Grace Gifts of Christ - Ephesians 4:11-15

Evangelists--passionate about getting people saved.

Pastors/shepherds--comfort, care, protection.

Prophets--reveal God's heart, mind; vision, direction.

Teachers--instruction, training.

5. Role of the Apostle - "sent one"

Apostle is commissioned and sent by the LORD to accomplish a specific purpose.

Pastoral vs. Apostolic Model

Apostolic Model is Vision oriented

Every believer is called to "make disciples" do the work - Galatians 4:1 Apostolic teams labor to see Christ formed.

A Call to Prayer and Fasting - January 7-9

Pray and Declare:

"Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit"

"My (our) food is to do the will of the One Who sent me..." as Jesus did in John 4:34

We/you would be rooted and established in LOVE.

He would build us according to Heaven's blueprint (leadershiop, body, LIFE groups).

That grace would abound for every good work and we would build rightly and surely according to His plumbline.

Ask/seek for revelation and understanding for His will and call for your life this season.

8 November 2015, Nan Gutierrez

1. The Spiritual Realm - a "real" place

A. God created the heavens and the earth. Gen. 1:1, Col. 1:16

B. God created us as tri-part beings. Gen. 1:27, 1 Thes. 5:23

C. Satan is a real, created being who rebelled, fell from heaven, and took 1/3 of the angels with him. He is currently at work in the world where we live. Gen. 3:1-15, 1 Chron. 21:1, Eze. 28, Eph. 3:9, 1 Pet. 5:8, Eph. 2:2

D. God is the origin and source of everything good. His nature and being surpass our comprehension. God is love; God is spirit. 1 John 4:8, John 4:24

E. When we sinned, we died spiritually. Jesus Christ is the way to eternal LIFE. (Eph. 2:1, Col. 2:13, 2 Tim. 4:18) Through surrender and rebirth, by faith we receive a new nature (2 Pet. 1:4) and a new life (John 5:24) to possess in Christ.

F. In Christ we have victory over the old nature. (Rom. 6:8, 12, 14) We have been delivered from the heredity of sin, but still wage war against sinful desires. We NEED the power of the Holy Spirit and the Truth of God's word to be effective in the battle against sin and the devil.

G. We see scriptural confirmation of both the empowerment and the battle in the lives of Jesus and the Apostles.

H. Holy Spirit is the One Who helps us navigate through the natural and spiritual realms through His teaching, power, and the Word of God.

2. God rules over all things physical and spiritual. The spiritual realm is the causal realm. It's where things begin and end.

A. God has given us authority in the earth realm. (Gen. 1:28)

B. We are seated with Christ in heavenly places. (Eph. 2:6)

C. By the Spirit within us, we partner with Christ to enforce the victory. 1 John 3:8, Col. 2:15, Matt 6:10, Matt. 18:18, Jam. 4:4.

James 4:4-10 is excellent instruction/edification for us. We must first die daily; receive His Life and Love, and walk in victory.

a. Friendship with the world makes us an enemy of God.

b. God is jealous for His Spirit to be expressed in us and through us. Ps. 24: 3-4

c. He opposes the proud.

d. Submit to God. Rom. 7:23, Prov. 23:5, Rom. 8:6

e. Resist the enemy; he must flee. Eph. 6:23

f. Draw near to God and He will come near to you.

g. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord and He will lift you up.

h. Deut. 30: 6
